May 22/2020  Dear All,    Butsuzo means Buddhist Statues in Japanese.       Our laboratory has accumulated 3D data of many Butsuzo and has been using them for education and research. We hope that by distributing some of them in VR (Virtual Reality), we will feel the charm of the Butsuzo and become more familiar.    We guess many people are currently refraining from going out due to COVID-19 unfortunately. But we would be happy if you could actually worship Butsuzo introduced here after you have regained a usual life again. 　We will update this website from time to time, so please check back often.    In addition, many people helped us to hold this exhibition. Notes

     The 3D data used in this site is 3D measurement of the actual statue, and the data is edited for Virtual Reality. In the process, there is a certain difference compared to the actual color and shape.      Unless otherwise specified, the images used here are Computer Graphics, not photos actually taken.      You can view 3D data, but cannot download.

     Download and secondary use of texts, images, 3D data posted on this website is prohibited.      You can link to this page without any permission.

　十一面観音像は木心乾漆造という技法でつくられています。ここでその構造を調べていきましょう。 　まず画像をクリック（タッチ）して台座を取り外してみましょう。長い足枘（あしほぞ）がしっかりと台座に差し込まれているのがわかります。

　お像の表面をみると、木屎漆（漆と樹皮の粉などを混ぜたもの）で覆われ、その上に金箔が施されているのがわかります。 　画像をタッチ（クリック）してその内側の心木をみてみましょう。

　これが十一面観音像の心木です。心木は大まかに体幹部、化仏、両腕、両脚で構成されています。 　画面をタッチ（クリック）して化仏、両腕、両脚を外してみましょう。

　体幹部には背中から腹部にかけて内刳（うちぐり）が施されており、内刳部分は蓋で閉じられています。 　最後に画像をタッチ（クリック）して、蓋を外してみましょう。内刳の様子がわかるでしょう。

    This statue is made by a technique called mokushin-kanshitsu (wood-core dry lacquer). Let's survey the structure here.     First, click (touch) the image and remove the pedestal. You can see that the long tenon with legs are firmly inserted in the pedestal.

   If you look at the surface of the statue, you can see that it is covered with kokuso-urushi (lacquer with tree bark flour) and gold leaf is applied on it.    Touch (click) the image to see the mokushin (wood-core).

   This is the mokushin of this statue. It is roughly made up of a body, avatars, arms and legs.    Touch (click) the screen and remove avatars, arms and legs.
